Oddities and Curiosities Australia 2025

A recap on doing the Australian tour of Oddities and Curiosities Expo 2025. This was my second year doing the expo as Black Widow Metal and I did all 4 expos.

Preparing for these expos while working my regular job and doing other Melbourne markets and expos was tough. How much do you prepare? Do you focus on smaller or bigger pieces? What new set up displays do you need? What accommodation needs to be booked? There were so many questions that needed to be answered and i didn't have the answers. All i could do was over prepare and hope for the best!

The biggest challenge I faced was keeping my stock levels high enough for the 3rd and 4th expos. While advertising that I would have bras, skirts and chainmail lamps, these items pretty much sold out immediately in Sydney and Melbourne. Each expo being one weekend after another, I just didn't have time to re-make these items while we spent so much time on the road driving between cities. I felt guilty about not being able to bring some of these items to each city, but I was actively chainmailling necklaces, earrings, bracelets and belt chains while on the road. I made jewellery in the car, at Airbnb's and even at the expos between chatting to patrons! So I had to give myself some grace, I'm only one person and can only do so much.

As much as I love doing expos, meeting new people and of course expanding my brand, the best part of doing Oddities and Curiosities Expos is doing it with my friends. I stayed at Airbnb's with my husband and friends: Highwaters Tattoo, Dear After Life, Deadly Sins Cosmetics and Local Crooks. Plus seeing so many other vendors I've come to know and love and of course the owners and people who run the expo who we couldn't do it without. I had so much fun and I can't wait to do it all over again in 2026. See you then! Love Sarah x
